Michigan’s largest Earth Day event has been held in Rochester for the past four years. In April 2006, the Earth Day Expo was co-founded by Upland Hills Ecological Awareness Center (UHEAC), Natural Awakenings Magazine, and Oakland University. It was held at OU and was attended by over 1,000 visitors and 50 exhibitors.
After three years of steady growth at OU, a partnership of UHEAC and Rochester Downtown Development Authority brought the event “to main street” in April 2009, and the event grew to over 50,000 attendees and 170 exhibitors.
Earth Day 2010
This year, UHEAC decided not to produce the Earth Day Expo. To continue the Earth Day observance in Rochester, the 2009 expo management team has formed a new organization, Tri•Green Development L3C, to produce the MI Earth Day Fest, in partnership with the Rochester DDA.
Tri•Green is a Michigan L3C (an innovative for-profit/non-profit hybrid) whose mission is to build partnerships with local business, government and non-profit organizations to promote economic and community development that meets the triple bottom line - people, planet, and prosperity.
